Once Upon a Time NOT in Bollywood

Come watch SETU’s new production: Once upon a time, NOT in Bollywood: an explosive play that explores the nuances of Indian politics while a parallel fantasy emerges through embedded Bollywood songs and dances. The protagonists Malati and Praveen are moderates who are trying to survive in a world dominated by extremist ideology on either end of the political spectrum and an ineffectual middle party that aims to incorporate everyone and pleases no one. What is the fate of Praveen and Malati’s budding college days’ romance? Praveen is harboring a deep secret: will that eventually catch up to him? Find out for yourself. Recreating all the exuberance and all the complexity that is modern India, this play will be as entertaining as it is thought provoking!

SETU: Stage Ensemble Theater Unit, Inc., is a 501 ( c ) (3) not-for-profit organization, founded in 2003.

Bedlam’s Cry Havoc

The critically-lauded NYC based theater company Bedlam is bringing Cry Havoc to Boston for four days—a must see one man show directed by Eric Tucker (Bedlam’s artistic director). Bedlam’s director of outreach, Stephan Wolfert, who conceived and stars in the piece, will introduce Boston audiences to Bedlam’s developing outreach programs for military veterans.

Tickets are a $20 suggested donation, and seating is limited.

About Cry Havoc

After six years in the army, Stephan Wolfert hopped off the Amtrak deep in the mountains of Montana and found himself at a performance of Richard III that would change his life forever. In a heartrending 75 minutes, Wolfert discovers his own experience pre- and post-service in the lines of some of Shakespeare’s most famous speeches, all the while exploring the possibility of a new experience. Is there room for improvement in the way in which we reintegrate our vets back into society? The military recruits citizens and trains them how to kill, but does not “un-train” them. What does the “de-cruit” process look like? How do we come together to re learn how to live? The performance is followed by an engaging talk back between actor, audience, and veterans that dares to answer these questions.
