Vacation Week Programs & Classes


Underground Railway Theater provides training for young people ages 6-16 through classes and intensive programs. Aspiring theater artists learn alongside URT Teaching Artists and CST professionals, skills in script analysis, ensemble building, puppetry, mask, and performance.

April Vacation Week Program
Science on Stage!
April 15-19, 2013. Ages 6 and Up.

How can anybody pay attention when there are so many distractions around us? Through improvisation and playmaking, participants will get a little taste of the science behind ‘paying attention’. The week includes trip to the MIT Museum of Science.

Summer Stage 2013
Camp of Characters: June 24-28 Open to ages 6-13

Step into the shoes of the theater world’s most enduring characters – and create new ones! URT Teaching Artists will teach participants how to understand a character – what makes a character tick? What makes audiences love or hate a character? How does an actor transform into another being – how does an actor ‘stay in character’?
Monday - Friday, 9am-3pm
Culminating Event, Friday, June 28, 3p

Acting Funny: 7/8/13- 7/19/13 Open to ages 8-13
What makes an audience laugh? Discover tricks of the Comedy Greats of the stage. URT Teaching Artists will guide participants in training in slapstick, commedia, clowning, stand-up, and more.

Culminating Event, Thursday, July 18

Brave the Bard: 7/22/13-8/2/13 Open to ages 8-13
Spend your summer with Shakespeare. Step up and take the challenge of performing an adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing, one of the Bard’s most enduring plays. URT Teaching Artists will provide training in iambic pentameter, the world of Shakespeare, and performance.
Monday – Friday 9am-3pm
Culminating Event: Thursday, August 1
Counselor in Training (CIT): CIT positions open to young people 13 up. Previous program experience preferred and interview required.
